Ensuring a Healthy Pregnancy With Preimplantation Genetic Testing

PGT-A or Preimplantation Genetic Testing tests for abnormalities in chromosome numbers in the embryo. It is used to prevent the transmission of chromosomal diseases like Down Syndrome. A few embryo cells are biopsied at the blastocyst stage and analysed for its chromosome numbers. Embryos with a normal chromosome number (referred to as euploids) will be selected for transfer, whereas abnormal embryos will be discarded.

JS, who resides in the UK, came to Malaysia in search of a good fertility centre and eventually chose Metro IVF. Four blastocysts were produced after her oocyte pick-up, and all were sent for PGT-A testing. Only one embryo was an euploid and used during her Frozen Embryo Transfer, resulting in a successful pregnancy.
