GC’S JOURNEY
Hope and Perseverance: GC’s Journey to Motherhood
It is well known that conceiving through IVF can be a long and challenging journey. Many couples face multiple cycles, setbacks, and emotional hurdles before reaching success. GC’s story, a couple from Johor, reflects the combined strength, support, and unwavering dedication shared between her, her husband, and their family, making their eventual triumph even more meaningful.
Early IVF Journey (2015–2018)
GC began her fertility journey in 2015 at Fertility Centre 1 with her first OPU and frozen embryo (FE) cycle. Over this period, she completed four IVF cycles at Fertility Centre 1 (1st to 4th attempts), all of which were unsuccessful.
In 2016–2017, she continued treatment at Fertility Centre 2, undergoing OPU and FET cycles. She became pregnant during this time, but unfortunately, the pregnancy did not continue. She completed two IVF cycles at this centre (5th and 6th attempts), both unsuccessful.
From 2017–2018, she returned to Fertility Centre 1 for IVF with PGTA and another FET. These cycles also were not successful, marking her 7th–9th IVF attempts without a positive outcome.
Later in 2018, she pursued another IVF with PGTA at a centre in Manchester, UK, and also underwent ERA testing. This cycle was considered her 10th IVF attempt, but once again, it did not result in a successful pregnancy.
Despite years of effort and heartache, her journey towards motherhood remained unfulfilled—yet she continued forward with unwavering strength.
*First Visit to Metro IVF (2019–2020)
In 2019, GC was recommended by a relative to seek treatment at Metro IVF, where she began her care under Dr Tee Swi Peng. She started with OPU and FET cycles.
In 2020, she underwent another FET, followed by OPU and embryo transfer (ET). She conceived, but unfortunately, the pregnancy did not continue. These repeated losses were physically and emotionally challenging.
At this stage, she had completed her 11th and 12th IVF attempts, both ending in miscarriage.
Investigation and Treatment for Recurrent Miscarriage
Following her 11th and 12th failed IVF cycle, GC underwent further investigation at Metro IVF, which revealed anti-phospholipid syndrome. She received appropriate treatment and care, preparing her body for another chance at a successful pregnancy.
Note: Anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) is a condition where the immune system creates antibodies that make the blood clot too easily. This can lead to miscarriages, IVF failure, or blood clots. With treatment, the risks can be reduced.
IVF Success at Metro IVF (2021–2022)
Her perseverance and the personalised treatment she received at Metro IVF led to remarkable outcomes:
- On 17 November 2021, during her 13th IVF cycle, she underwent FET and achieved a successful pregnancy — her first live birth.
- On 13 September 2023, during her 14th IVF cycle, she achieved her second successful pregnancy.
The last four procedures — all carried out at Metro IVF — marked the turning point after years of struggle, careful monitoring, and expert guidance.
A Full-Circle Moment (2025)

10 February 2025, GC returned to Metro IVF, not as a patient, but as a mother. She brought both her children to the centre, holding their little hands as they visited the place where their lives first began.
This moment symbolised hope, perseverance, and the rewards of never giving up.
Lessons from GC’s Journey
GC’s journey demonstrates that strength and resilience are essential, even after facing repeated setbacks. With proper investigation and targeted treatment — such as identifying and managing anti-phospholipid syndrome — challenges can be overcome. Although success may require multiple IVF cycles, hope and persistence can ultimately lead to the long-awaited joy of parenthood.
Her journey tells us:
• Her unwavering determination kept her moving forward, even with many times she fell.
• She followed every medical advice with full trust and discipline, giving each cycle her best.
• Her family stood by her side throughout the journey — especially her mother, who never missed a single consultation and remained her constant source of strength.
Metro IVF is honoured to have been part of GC’s journey, guiding her from years of struggle to the triumph of welcoming two healthy children into her life.
