Going Through an Embryo Transfer at 44

Do you know what’s the biggest challenge for a 44-year-old woman who’s trying to conceive?

The answer is obtaining a good embryo for transfer.

Many fertility specialists recommend proceeding with IVF without unnecessary delay or considering ovum donation (OD). SO came to Metro IVF at the age of 44 for a fertility consultation. She was advised that IVF would be the best option, and she agreed immediately.

She began her IVF cycle soon after her initial investigation. The team worked together to optimise her outcome by using an ovarian stimulation protocol to maximise egg output, opting for Day 3 embryos instead of Day 5 to avoid embryo loss, providing dual progesterone support and offering counseling to motivate the couple.

Two weeks after her embryo transfer, her UPT and beta-hCG tests were positive, signalling that SO was pregnant. Her pregnancy progressed smoothly, and she delivered a healthy baby at 45.
